This is our Healthy Pet ökocat Natural Wood Clumping Cat Litter Review. Healthy Pet ökocat Natural Wood Clumping cat litter is a fast and firm clumping litter that consists of soft grounded pellets of wood. It promises 7-day odor control and 500% absorption. Also, it is free from any chemicals, dyes, and other synthetics which means it would be comfortable for even the most sensitive cats and owners. These litters are 100% biodegradable and also flushable. Available in 7.5, 12, and 18-pound boxes.
Who This Cat Litter is Intended For
This cat litter is for people who want to venture out and try some more unique and environmentally friendly materials than your conventional clays and crystals. By doing this, however, they still want to take advantage of clumping ability. The typical household will have a single cat or multiple litter boxes if they have two or more cats. Also, people interested in this product will need to be willing to pay a premium to experience it as it can be quite expensive.
What Makes This Cat Litter Unique
This product is unique in that it is entirely made out of wood. Even more impressive is that it still advertises having clumping ability, good moisture absorption, and adequate odor control (advertised as being up to 7 days) without having to rely on any harsh chemical or artificial perfumes. We like the idea of trying out different types of materials, especially if they might be better for the environment.
Clumping Ability –
Overall this product struggles somewhat with feces. The clumps it does form are very soft and can fall apart rather easily. Also, the clumps are generally large so they not only use a lot of the product but also take up a lot of space and often will not sift through the grate.
When exposed to urine, it does a much better job and soaks it all up and form sort of a paste that hardens and is easy to identify and remove. In busier litter boxes it is important to remove these clumps as soon as possible because they tend to break pretty easily when moved around.
Scent –
Since the pellets themselves don’t have any sort of chemicals or perfumes they don’t have the overpowering smell that a lot of conventional litters have. That being said, there is still a unique smell to this litter that resembles a gerbil cage. It does a decent job of masking the smell of feces for short periods but if you leave the feces in there the clumps with typically fall apart and kick up the feces smell.
Urine seems to fare much better and the hard wooden clumps that form when exposed to liquid stay intact and lock in the smell. We are glad that the ammonia smell that is somewhat notorious for hanging out when using wood and paper-based cat litters isn’t an issue here.
Messiness –
While this litter doesn’t have any dust issues, the pellets are light enough that they can get kicked around very easily. This also includes pellets that might have urine or feces already on them as well which can be a bit frustrating. Furthermore, some of the pellets can stick to your cat’s hair, especially if your cat has long hair, and be tracked all over the house.
Cleanup can be burdensome because a lot of scoops on the market don’t have large enough grate slots so the wood pellets won’t even be able to go through. This means a huge mess and lots of wasted litter.

Expect to pay online in the premium-price area on this litter. While all-natural cat litter fetches a higher asking price, this is simply too high to not warrant some negative points in scoring.
Overall Rating –
The Healthy Pet ökocat Natural Wood Clumping Cat Litter Review earns 2 out of 5 cats. We like the idea but overall this is a messy litter that tries to be more nature-friendly but at the cost of performance and likely an increase in price. Huge, soft clumps, easy tracking, and some struggles with odor control are red flags. If you are dead-set on having a more eco-conscious litter there are better options.
