This is our Premium Choice Dual Strength Cat Litter Review. Premium Choice Dual Strength Scoopable cat litter is an advanced, two-phase odor control that is extra potent at handling both urine and feces. It comes in a fresh fragrance and offers superior clumping while being low tracking and low dust. It is also good for households with multiple cats. This item is available in 16-pound jugs and 25 and 40-pound bags.
Who This Cat Litter is Intended For
This cat litter is intended for households who have extra demanding odor challenges and have potentially struggled to keep them in check with other products. Also, those who have had a challenge keeping one of the two primary odor causes (feces and urine) under control may also benefit from this dual odor approach.
This product also targets both single and multi-cat households. Furthermore, it is meant for those who like clumping clay litters and don’t mind the smell of artificial perfume. Finally, it is a good choice for those on a tight budget as it is typically reasonably priced.
What Makes This Cat Litter Unique
This cat litter is unique in that it tries to tackle cat odors in a dual approach. Most products simply try to knock out odors broadly and don’t have systems in place to try to assess each one on an individual level. Premium Choice is confident that this plan of attack works well and allows this product to stand up to even the toughest litter box conditions.
Clumping Ability –
This litter has good clumping ability. The clumps will stay hard to relatively hard for up to a week which should give you plenty of time to dispose of them. It can get a bit overwhelmed with large amounts of urine and some of it can potentially creep to the bottom of the box but this is only when there are multiple cats involved and several days pass by. The clumps can also be a bit large so while they are easily identifiable it would be nice to see them serve their purpose without using quite as much litter.
Scent –
The scent this litter emits is somewhat artificial in smell and can be quite intense if you get close to it. However, it seems to subdue while sitting and will only be kicked up in the case of you or your cat moving it around. Overall it does a good to a very good job of capturing the scent for up to 5 days or so. When the clumps start to get weaker some smells can come out but up to that point the dual strength feature this litter has shone. We did find that certain flavors of ammonia smell did struggle a little bit more.
Messiness –
Being natural clay, there is some dust and tracking involved despite what Premium Choice embosses. Not to say that it is any worse than the other clay litters on the market (in fact it is better than most) but it is still present and something that has to be considered when using a clay litter. Thankfully the tracking, while present, is minimal and most of it falls close to the box.
There don’t seem to be any issues with this sticking to the cat’s fur or paws, even in long-haired examples. If you delay the cleaning of the box to the point where moisture can reach the bottom it can get somewhat pasty and you might have to resort to scraping, however.
Value –
Prices for this litter online are in the budget-priced range. This is a very competitive asking price. While they are some issues with certain aspects of this litter, the asking price does make them easier to accept.
Overall Rating –
The Premium Choice Dual Strength Cat Litter Review earns 3 out of 5 cats. A decent choice, mostly because of the price. It will not amaze you with its performance but your wallet will thank you. We do feel that it does better than most in busier litter boxes due to its dual odor elimination approach. Acceptable clumping, odor control and for the most part mess-free makes it a soft buy in our book.
