Advertised Product Description
This is our Tidy Cats Lightweight with Glade Tough Odor Solutions Cat Litter Review. Tidy Cats Lightweight with Glade Tough Odor Solutions cat litter is advertised as being 50% lighter than leading conventional clumping litters. While being lighter, it still has all of the strong clumping and cleanup abilities you come to expect in a product. Also, the formula locks in moisture and provides powerful odor control. This product is available in 6 and 8.5-pound jugs and 12 and 17-pound pails.
Who This Cat Litter is Intended For
This cat litter is intended for people who are fed up dealing with heavy cat litters and want to try something that is up to 50% lighter than the competition. However, they want to stick with clay and its sought after clumping ability for their single or multiple cats. Also, they and their pets don’t mind the scent of artificial fragrances to assist in covering up cat waste odor. Finally, they are willing to pay a premium for a product that offers all of this to them.
What Makes This Cat Litter Unique
This cat litter is unique because it tries to take all of the benefits of a clay clumping litter but put it in a package that is half the weight per volume. This is a pretty lofty task, especially considering that this product is still advertised as being targeted for multiple cat litter boxes.
Clumping Ability –
This product clumps decent, but when compared to other conventional clay litters it falls a bit short. This is likely because of the lighter clay formula that is used. While it is helpful for handling purposes, it just doesn’t seem to have as much ability to form hard, tight clumps. The clumps can oftentimes be a bit mushy. However, while mushy, they still seem to stay together well enough to be removed.
One weird issue with this litter, however, is that the clumps tend to sink to the bottom. Since the granules are so small and light, they are easily moved out of the way by the bulkier clumps which result in lots of hidden clumps that can make it hard to clean and result in them falling apart under the surface and release the smells and moisture back into the air.
Scent –
There is a moderate perfume smell associated with this litter. Some people say it is overbearing while others don’t seem to mind. To put it simply, we give it a 5 out of 10 on the pungency factor so that might be fine or too much depending on individual preferences. The Glade Odor Solution does a great job of covering smells considering it is such a light litter. The simple fact of the matter is that the lack of volume of the grain means that there isn’t as much odor absorption, but for the lightweight offerings available this is one of the best.
Messiness –
This is an extremely dusty litter. The fact it is clay and also lightweight creates a “perfect storm” of sorts. This litter will get kicked up everywhere and tracked very easily. It also tends to stick to cat paws and fur. Also, if some of the clumps sink under the surface your cats can step on them and they will stick to the bottom of their paw making it a stinky, pasty mess that goes everywhere. This can become much more significant if you have a busier litter box.
Value –
This product is generally available in the premium-priced tier. It is important to note that we have been seeing it for a little cheaper than this but it still tends to be much more expensive than most other clay cat litters on the market.
Overall Rating –
The Tidy Cats Lightweight with Glade Tough Odor Solutions Cat Litter Review earns 2 out of 5 cats. The lightweight feature hurts things more than helps here, and just makes the whole thing a dusty, poorly clumping mess. We just hesitate to think that with its given performance it can handle some of the busier multi-cat litter boxes. And for a price that is near the top in what is available online, there isn’t a good justification for using this product.
