This is our UltraPet Better Way Flushable Cat Litter Review. UltraPet Better Way Flushable cat litter is special in that it is made of 100% natural zeolite, which is advertised as not only being great at odor control and creating clumps but can also be flushed down your toilet. Also, it contains Sanel, a natural cat attractant that originates from tree resin. This is offered in a paw-friendly medium that is also great with kittens. This product is available in 12-pound bags.
Who This Cat Litter is Intended For
This cat litter is intended for single-cat households who either have issues with other more traditional types of litter or are simply wanting to mix things up. However, they still want to retain clumping ability in whatever product they go with. Also, they like the ease and convenience of simply being able to flush their litter down the toilet instead of disposing of it the conventional way. Finally, they are willing to pay a decent amount for this product.
What Makes This Cat Litter Unique
This cat litter is unique for a couple of reasons. First, it is made of zeolite which makes it very special as that is material that we rarely come across in cat litters. Secondly, it is not only designed but encourage to be flushed down your toilet. All the while, expected abilities such as clumping and viable odor control are exclaimed as being kept intact. We also like how it includes a natural cat attractant made of tree resin.
Clumping Ability –
Despite its claims, this product does not clump very well. Rather, it forms a sort of semi-hard gooey ball. This might be the reason why they say it is “flushable” since it is probably much worse on your toilet to flush a rock-hard ball down it. These gooey balls are formed for both feces as well as urine, and both can easily fall apart and be smeared onto the walls of the cat box or even onto your cat itself! This becomes even worse if you try to use this in a busier multi-cat litter box.
Scent –
The litter itself has a subtle smell associated with it outside of a sort of rock quarry-like aroma. Most cats and owners shouldn’t mind it. Overall it really struggles locking in cat waste smells for very long, and especially struggles with masking the odor of cat urine. This might be because of the lack of true “clumping”.
You are encouraged to remove the waste promptly. We guess if you are constantly removing the waste then it will keep smells down, but it sure would have been nice to have a litter that removes cat smells on its own so it wasn’t so laborious for the owner.
Messiness –
The zeolite is on the dustier side, and the lighter-than-average granules track easily and can also stick to your cat’s paws. The biggest complaint is how easily the clumps will fall apart. Unless you are extremely gentle with them (and even then sometimes it is still not enough) they can easily fall apart and spread throughout the box. The result is very sticky and you might find yourself having to scrape the walls of the box quite a bit. The one positive is that most of this occurs towards the surface of the box.
Value –
Online prices vary quite a bit on this product depending on quantity. However, we have noticed it mostly falls into the mid to premium-priced range. The unique formula that allows for flushing can command a higher asking price but for many that don’t intend on flushing their cat litter, it will be an unnecessarily added premium.
Overall Rating –
The UltraPet Better Way Flushable Cat Litter Review earns 1.5 out of 5 cats. We were disappointed with this litter. The clumps just don’t seem to form as we would like and this, in turn, makes it struggle with odor control. Furthermore, it is rather dusty and cleanup can be a huge headache. It would be one thing if this was a super affordable example but it can be in the premium category depending on where you buy it! While we like the specialized approach it still needs a lot of tweaking. We recommend that you try another option.
