Advertised Product Description
This is our UltraPet Trackless Litter Pearls Cat Litter Review. UltraPet Trackless Litter Pearls cat litter is another silica get-based litter. However, the shapes of the pearls are irregular which is advertised as reducing the issue of tracking since they cannot roll. Despite this feature, this product still absorbs urine and moisture from cat solids quickly and easily and is for the most part dust free. It is available in 3.5, 7, and 10.5-pound bags.
Who This Cat Litter is Intended For
This cat litter is intended for owners and cats who want a change of pace from clay and wood litter and want to try out a silica-based product. It is generally best for single cats and it is also good for people who don’t want to deal with picking up clumps and would rather opt to dump out the litter as necessary. Also, cats with sensitive paws or that are bothered by the sometimes strong fumes that exist in clay litters might enjoy this product. Finally, this is for owners who are willing to pay a premium for a cat litter that works.
What Makes This Cat Litter Unique
This cat litter is unique in that it is made of silica gel. But even beyond that, the manufacturer has made the shapes of the granules irregular to help with tracking problems, which are a common issue with silica litter. Despite the unique material and shape, UltraPet believes that they have a great product that meets the requirements of a single-cat household.
Clumping Ability – N/A
Similar to many other crystal litters on the market, this product is not intended to clump. It simply dries out feces and absorbs the urine. If you decide to remove the feces you can do so manually in a way similar to clumping litters or utilize an automatic litter box.
Scent –
There is essentially no smell from the litter itself since it is made of silica. Overall this product does a great job of locking in smells for a couple of weeks, especially if timely maintenance is performed on the box via removal of feces. The crystals are just so absorbent that any odor-causing moisture is simply locked away and stays there.
Towards the end of a bag’s life, you might start to smell the faint aroma of ammonia at which time you know it is time to replace the box with fresh litter. We recommend keeping this for a single cat, however, as the life of the litter drops drastically if multiple cats are using it.
Messiness –
Despite this product’s claims, it does unfortunately still track. While the crystals aren’t round like many of the pearl varieties (which means that they won’t roll on hard surfaces) the fact that they are still light and now have jagged edges means that this stuff easily catches cat hair and paws and can also dig a lot deeper into carpets.
And the other unforeseen issue is that when you step on these they hurt! Think about how much it stings when you are barefoot and step on a hard, sharp rock. This is essentially what these are. There is also a bit more dust than we would like to see from a crystal-based litter (still not near as bad as clay, however). Thankfully feces cleanup is easy and the urine is tucked away not to be seen again for up to a month at a time.
Value –
Online prices for this product are generally in the premium-price tier. We have to knock off a few points due to the high asking price.
Overall Rating –
The UltraPet Trackless Litter Pearls Cat Litter Review earns 2.5 out of 5 cats. We weren’t as impressed with this product as other crystal litters. The odor control is still good but comparably lower than equivalent examples and the mess is a bit more than we like. We also liked the idea of making the shapes of the granules irregular but it ends up opening up other issues. While the price is a “little” lower than some of the other options the performance took a big enough hit that we feel it needs to be even lower to be an easily justifiable purchase.
