Advertised Product Description
This is our Arm & Hammer Clump & Seal Lightweight Fresh Scent Cat Litter Review. Arm & Hammer Clump and Seal Lightweight Fresh Scent are similar to its multi-cat counterpart except for being optimized to be used with a single cat and also promising a refreshing scent.
The “lightweight” term comes from the fact that this litter is 50% lighter than conventional products. Containing the proven formula of heavy-duty odor eliminators as well as Arm & Hammer baking soda, it promises to lock in bad smells while being 100% dust-free. This litter can be purchased in 9 and 15-pound boxes.
Who This Cat Litter is Intended For
This cat litter is intended for households that typically only have a single cat or if multiple cats that have individual litter boxes. It is great for owners who struggle or are simply tired of dealing with extremely heavy clay litters, but who still want to stick with the clay cat littler compound.
While there are scentless lightweight varieties, this fresh scent caters well to those who prefer the smell of a perfume over conventional clay litter smell. Coming in at a middle price, it is good for people who are somewhat budget-conscious but are willing to spend a little extra for a product that they enjoy.
What Makes this Cat Litter Unique
This product is unique in that it is much lighter than most other clay litters while still promising to retain many of the conventional qualities of clay litters such as good odor sealing and clumping ability. Also, Arm & Hammer go so far to say that they even guarantee 100% dust-free performance despite being made of a lighter-weight litter compound.
Clumping Ability –
Overall this litter does a pretty average job of clumping. Clumps have been seen to group into large burdensome shapes that use a lot of litter and are difficult to dispose of. These large clumps also mean that the litter gets used up rather quickly so you will have to replace the bag sooner.
In addition, the clumps are relatively soft and can fall apart easily. When they do fall apart, the cat waste smells tend to be released again. Perhaps the lightweight attributes of this litter are the cause for the clumping issues, and going with a “heavier” litter that performs better might be the better approach.
Scent –
The fresh scent is, for the most part, acceptable. And when the smells are actually locked in it works fine. However, after a few days and if/when the clumps fall apart the smells can easily overpower the fresh scent. Timely removal and maintenance should take care of this problem but if you decide to venture near the “7-day guarantee” that this product embosses you might run into some issues. This is especially the case if you use this product in busy litter boxes that multiple cats are using.
Messiness –
Since the clumps tend to fall apart, this results in a sometimes pasty residue. This stuff sticks to everything, including cat paws. Because of this, there may be some tracking beyond the mat that you have to deal with. Being a lighter litter in general means that there could also be some spillage since it doesn’t take a lot of force to move the litter around. Similar to clump removal, you might find yourself having to clean up dust residue and litter that has tracked out of the box more often than you would like.
Value –
and save
This litter is for sale online in the mid-priced range. For what you are getting this seems a bit on the high side as you can find many clay litters at lower asking prices.
Overall Rating –
The Arm & Hammer Clump & Seal Lightweight Fresh Scent Cat Litter Review earns 2 cats out of 5. There isn’t anything great to say about this product other than the fact it is relatively light which helps in handling it. It struggles somewhat with clumps becoming and staying hard, locking in odor, and overall cleanup. For the performance, we would like to see it is priced at half of what it sells for at best.
