One of the Most Established Names in Cat Litter
Tidy Cats is arguably the most well-known cat litter brand out of any that we have reviewed. While this by itself doesn’t necessarily guarantee that a product is good or bad, it does show that they are doing something right to get to the level of success that they have achieved.
Their decades of experience and tweaking of their products are represented in everything that they sell, and the result is a product list of respected and proven litters that tend to get the job done. You don’t have to worry about accidentally getting an untested and unproven product when you go with Tidy Cats.
Huge Variety of Products to Choose From
Tidy Cats also has one of the largest ranges of products to choose from. These litters span from traditional clumping clay litters to non-clumping and they even test the waters in some non-clay products. Within their clay lines, they also have an impressive array of lightweight products that are intended to try to negate a common complaint that people have with clay-based litters: their weight.
They have also teamed up with Glade on many of their items and have injected Glade scents directly into the litter. This is great for those cats and owners who don’t mind having an artificial scent and doing this might benefit from the added performance because it helps to further mask cat waste odors.
Their Roots Stick With Clay
While Tidy Cats does attempt some other material types, its foundation is built around clay-based cat litters. This might surprise some, especially considering the large number of products that Tidy Cats offers, but it is apparent that they feel they have something good with their clay recipes, and their track record supports that.
While you are mostly limited to clay litters, there is still a huge range of variations of types of clay and specific features that should appeal to just about everyone no matter what your wants or needs are. And for those that are dead set on branching out, they do have a few products for you as well.
Designed for Some of the Toughest Litter Boxes
Many of Tidy Cat’s products are intended for multi-cat litter boxes or litter boxes in areas that might have poor ventilation or be severely restricted in space. These types of scenarios are not easy to deal with, and oftentimes competition might shy away from recommending their products for them.
This isn’t the case here, and it shows us that Tidy Cats is confident that their litters can stand up to even the toughest conditions. This likely plays a part in why they decided to go with clay in most of their products, as clay is traditionally one of the best mediums for dealing with the particularly difficult litter box scenarios.
Huge Range of Product Sizes
Tidy Cats also has one of the largest ranges of package sizes out of any company we have reviewed. Their products go from tiny 5-pound bags up to enormous 50-pound containers. This should appeal to just about everyone: whether you are looking for a small and easy-to-carry bag for your single cat or want to buy in bulk to appease your multi-cat household, Tidy Cats has something for you.
Many Products are Quite Affordable
Another benefit of being a larger company that primarily deals in clay is that it allows you to price many of your products very competitively. Clay is oftentimes one of the most affordable litter materials available, and being a large company, they likely can purchase their materials in bulk, which decreases their overhead. These cost-saving techniques are then directed back towards the customer.
The result is that a lot of Tidy Cats products can fall into the budget tier. This is a welcome surprise as many companies with a reputation and established name like Tidy Cats would charge a significant premium on their products.

Tidy Cats 24/7 Performance
This is one of our favorite products on the market. The clumps are super hard and stay that way for days at a time. Smells from both feces and urine are kept in check, even in busy litter boxes. Our only minor complaints are some minor but manageable tracking and a bit high of a price tag but these are easily overlooked by the positives. It is available in 14 and 20-pound jugs, 27 and 35-pound pails, and 23, 27, and 40-pound boxes, is comprised of clay, and is available in mid to premium-price tiers.
Pros: Clumps harden quickly and effectively, tackles both feces and urine smells with ease, easy cleanup
Cons: Minor tracking
Tidy Cats Small Spaces
This product performs well across the board. The clumps are more than acceptable and cleanup is a breeze. In addition, it is typically available online for a very reasonable price. You can’t go wrong with this choice and we highly recommend it. It is available in 14 and 20-pound jugs, is comprised of clay, and is available in the budget-price area.
Pros: Good hard clumping, can handle odors for several days, great price
Cons: Moderately dusty, minor tracking
Tidy Cats Instant Action Non-Clumping
This product performs decently well but its real price point is its great price. While taking away the clumping ability likely plays a part in the price, its ability to fight odor and its relatively low tracking makes this a solid product. It is available in 10-pound paper bags and 20, 35, 30, and 40-pound weave bags, is comprised of clay, and is available in the budget-price tier.
Pros: No overpowering litter smell, keeps odor in check for up to a week, great price
Cons: Can be over saturated quickly in busy litter boxes, quite dusty
Tidy Cats 4 in 1 Strength
This product doesn’t do anything incredibly well but it doesn’t have any major faults either. The 4 in 1 approach is very unique and something we like. We feel that with a few small adjustments this litter could become a great choice. It is available in 14 and 20-pound jugs and 35-pound pails, is comprised of clay, and is available in the budget to mid-price area.
Pros: Acceptable clumping, locks in odors for several days, decently priced
Cons: Clumps can deteriorate into mushy balls, strong chemical litter smell, rather dusty
Tidy Cats 24/7 Performance Non-Clumping
This product comes in at a great price but you do have to give up clumping ability to get it. It is also a bit on the dusty side but it does a reasonable job of locking in odor for a few days. It is available in 20, 25, 30, 40, and 50-pound weave bags and 10-pound paper bags, is comprised of clay, and is available in the budget-price area.
Pros: Near odorless litter smell, captures cat waste smells for several days, good price
Cons: Quite dusty, some tracking exists
Tidy Cats Glade Tough Odor Solutions Non-Clumping
This is a pretty average litter with some noted struggles. Rather than locking in cat smells it simply overpowers them with its very intense artificial fragrance which might be a turn-off to some owners and cats. It can also be on the messy side and also does not clump in a conventional way. However, the price is fantastic which helps us to overlook some of its flaws. It is available in 10-pound paper bags and 20, 30, 40, and 50-pound weave bags, is comprised of clay, and is available in the budget-price tier.
Pros: Masks odors for acceptable period of time, keeps most moisture towards top, fantastic price
Cons: Strong chemical smell, somewhat dusty, prone to tracking

Tidy Cats Lightweight 24/7 Performance
Another litter that is somewhat forgettable. Despite being lightweight, it comes at the cost of poor clumping which indirectly affects its ability to lock in odor for long periods of time. The fact that it is quite messy and the high asking price knock this one down a couple of notches for us. It is available in 8.5-pound jugs and 18-pound boxes, is comprised of clay, and is available in the mid to premium-price tiers.
Pros: Pretty good clumping, can handle good levels of both feces and urine
Cons: Clumps tend to stink to bottom, extremely dusty
Tidy Cats Glade Tough Odor Solutions
While the clumping is decent enough and it also does an acceptable job of fighting cat waste smells, the asking price is just a bit too high for what you are getting. You can get similar performance for much cheaper but we suppose if you have to go with this one it will do the job well enough. It is available in 23-pound boxes, 14, 20, and 40-pound jugs, and 35-pound pails, is comprised of clay, and is available in the premium-price tier.
Pros: Acceptable clumping, handles feces with ease, low dust levels
Cons: Goes through product quickly, struggles with urine, some tracking
Tidy Cats Instant Action
While the price is decent, this product really struggles specifically with cat urine. It does handle feces well enough, but the urine issue is simply too glaring consider that is very common in a litter box. It is available in 7, 14, and 20-pound jugs, 27 and 35-pound pails, and 27 and 40-pound boxes, is comprised of clay, and is available in the budget to mid-price areas.
Pros: Very good hard clumps for feces, dust isn’t bad, handles feces smells fine
Cons: Has a tough time with urine both in clumping as well as odor control, messy urine balls can form
Tidy Cats Yesterday’s News Original
While we like that Tidy Cats stepped outside their normal box, they missed the mark in a few areas with this. It only does a decent job of dealing with odors but also gives up clumping ability in the process and for the high asking price we just want to see more out of this. It is available in 5,15, and 30-pound packages, is comprised of recycled paper, and is available in the mid to premium-priced tiers.
Pros: Environmentally friendly, no litter smell, handles feces well for the most part
Cons: Messy cleanup since no clumps, can be overwhelmed by too much urine
Tidy Cats Lightweight with Glade Tough Odor Solutions
The lightweight feature was a nice touch but the result is entirely too dusty and the clumps are really affected by this as well. And for a price that is near the top in what is available online, there really isn’t a good justification for using this product. It is available in 6 and 8.5-pound jugs and 12 and 7-pound pails, is comprised of clay, and is available in the premium-price area.
Pros: Great job of covering up odors for being so lightweight, clumps hold up decent enough
Cons: Clumps tend to sink to bottom, when clumps do fall apart it kicks up odors, tracks very easily, quite expensive

Tidy Cats Lightweight Instant Action
Way too expensive for what you are getting. The litter is very dusty and the clumps resemble a gooey ball more than a hard clump. It does lock away odors pretty fast but it is more the fact that the intense perfume is overpowering the waste smells than anything else. It is available in 8.5-pound jugs and 17-pound pails, is comprised of clay, and is available in the premium-priced tier.
Pros: Product will last a while, hides cat odor smells quickly
Cons: Clumps are not very hard, strong artificial smell, very dusty, extremely expensive
Tidy Cats Dual Power
The good online price is the only really bright point with this product. The clumps are simply too soft and then can also struggle with locking in odor. In addition, there is way too much dust. There are much better options out there even at this price point. It is available in 16 and 20-pound jugs and 25-pound pails, is comprised of clay, and is available in the budget-price tier.
Pros: Low dust levels, good price
Cons: Struggles with clumping, overwhelming artificial smell, poor odor neutralization, frustrating clump cleanup
Tidy Cats Pure Nature
Another one of the attempts for Tidy Cats to step away from clay litters, but it results in a product with quite a few glaring issues. This natural recipe struggles with clumping and also holding in moisture even in a single cat box. Cleanup is also way too laborious for most. It is available in 7.5,12, and 14-pound pouches, is comprised of cedar, corn, and pine, and is available in the mid-price tier.
Pros: All natural
Cons: Struggles with clumping, overpowering turpentine smell, does not do a good job of masking odors and can actually amplify them, bad at tracking
