Advertised Product Description
This is our Tidy Cats Lightweight Instant Action Cat Litter Review. Tidy Cats Lightweight Instant Action cat litter is advertised as being half the weight of standard clay-based litter. Despite that, it guarantees strong clumps that provide easy cleanup as well as the ability to lock in moisture efficiently and help fight intense odors. This is all done in a fast-acting formula for those times that you need it to kick in quickly. This product is available in 8.5-pound jugs and 17-pound pails.
Who This Cat Litter is Intended For
This cat litter is intended for those who are sick of dealing with extremely heavy litters, be it lugging them from the store and moving them around in litter boxes. However, they still enjoy the many benefits of a clay litter including its clumping ability and moisture retention.
Furthermore, they might have multiple cats so they need a product that acts instantly in locking away odors before they can escape. They and their cat don’t mind the usage of artificial scents to help with this. Finally, they are willing to open up their wallet and pay a relatively high price if all of these needs are met.
What Makes This Cat Litter Unique
This cat litter is unique because it attacks what can be a very difficult thing: instantly stopping odor from multi-cat boxes. What makes it stand out, however, is the fact that it tries to do this with a conventional clay litter that is advertised as being 50% more lightweight than the competition. This is a very bold statement with a unique product and we find that to be very inspiring and interesting.
Clumping Ability –
Similar to other lightweight offerings the clumps are small and use little litter, which means that a box will last a while. Unfortunately, that comes at the cost of having less than rock-hard clumps since the litter is just so much smaller than normal clay offerings. Rather than form hard rock-like clumps it just forms sort of gooey semi-hard masses.
Yes, they will stay together long enough for you to remove them. But in the case that your cat accidentally steps on the litter or moves it, things can get spread apart pretty easily. This can be quite common in a busier litter box. That being said, it handles both urine and feces quickly so the clumps form promptly.
Scent –
There is a rather strong litter smell with this product. It is scented but the scent is obviously heavily perfumed and can somewhat burn your nose if you get too close to it. This effect might also be experienced by your cat so make sure to watch closely. In regards to odor control, it does a good job of putting away smells quickly.
However, the source of the smell needs to be removed as soon as possible as the strong smells of cat solids and ammonia have been seen to start creeping out after a few days, especially from the urine. When the semi-soft clumps fall apart they will also kick the smell back in the air.
Messiness –
Dust, dust, and more dust. A literal cloud of dust will billow out from the box when you pour this in. Any time your cat moves it around you will see dust remnants being kicked up in the air. And this dust tends to stick very easily to your cat and will be tracked outside of the box.
Also, due to the lightweight nature of the litter, the granules themselves can also be easily carried out of the box via your cat’s paws or hair. Cleanup of clumps is acceptable as long as you are ginger with the clumps. If you are very aggressive or have an aggressive automatic litter box then they can easily fall apart and then sink to the bottom of the box where they can become pasty and stick to the walls.
Value –
Prices for this product vary widely and can be seen online typically in the premium-price range. This is way higher than we like to see. If you shop around you may find it cheaper but even then their glaring issues don’t make it very attractive of a purchase.
Overall Rating –
The Tidy Cats Lightweight Instant Action Cat Litter Review earns 2 out of 5 cats. A dusty, gooey, expensive mess. It might act somewhat quickly, but it is more than the overpowering perfumes are masking the cat odor smells than anything else. We feel that going with the lightweight approach hurt the overall performance of this product, especially considering how it targets multi-cat litter boxes. Shop around before trying this product out.
