This is our Tidy Cats Instant Action Cat Litter Review. Tidy Cats Instant Action cat litter is advertised as being the go-to litter for those looking for a quick and effective odor neutralization solution. This comes while still promising strong clumps and easy cleanup and the proprietary clay formula is guaranteed to lock in moisture while providing adequate odor control. Finally, this all comes while being 99.6% dust-free. This litter is available in 7, 14, and 20-pound jugs, 27 and 35-pound pails, and 27 and 40-pound boxes.
Who This Cat Litter is Intended For
This product is intended for both single and multi-cat households who are looking for a fast-action litter that will grab on to cat waste odors as quickly as possible. They prefer to stick with a conventional clay compound that has clumping capabilities and they and their cat are not turned off by the smell of artificial perfumes. Finding an affordable solution that doesn’t hit the wallet too hard is also at the top of the requirements.
What Makes This Cat Litter Unique
This cat litter is unique because it addresses capturing odor in as quickly as possible, rather than marketing for how long it can hold on to odors. This is different than a vast majority of litters on the market as they often talk about how many days they can keep cat smells intact before needing to be removed. Even with this claim, Tidy Cats thinks that this product is also good at keeping odors locked in and also stands behind its clumping capabilities.
Clumping Ability –
This litter does a very good job of clumping feces. The clumps are hard and stay hard for several days. The clumps use an average amount of litter in doing so. However, this product struggles quite a bit with clumping urine. Rather than capturing urine in little pucks that are easy to identify and remove, it instead forms tiny little gooey balls that sink to the bottom of the box and are next to impossible to remove. And anytime your cat steps on one or you try to remove it, it easily breaks and the strong ammonia odor from the urine is kicked back up and the gooey ball turns into a gooey mess. If only they would get the urine issue in check and this would be a great overall clumping litter.
Scent –
There is a modest chemical smell associated with this litter, but it is about average for a clay-based product. The feces smell is taken care of quickly and effectively and should not be a concern for several days. However, urine smells are a whole different animal.
The urine, since it is never really “captured”, slowly puts out a smell that becomes worse and worse the longer it sits and the more of it there is. Whenever you try to clean the box and one of the little urine balls open up, then you are in for an extremely pungent ammonia smell hitting your face and lingering in the house for hours.
Messiness –
There is some dust associated with this but it is nothing overbearing for a clay product. The dust does carry the scent of the litter but is not too overpowering. Feces cleanup is a breeze as they stay rock hard throughout and the odds of one falling apart from your cat stepping on it or moving it is quite slim. However, cleaning the urine balls is a nightmare and it is almost easier to just let them be until the smell is too strong and simply dump the entire box.
Value –
Costs for this litter online vary widely depending on the quantity and size purchased, but generally, fall in the budget to mid-price areas. However, we encourage you to shop around because you may be able to find it for a better deal.
Overall Rating –
The Tidy Cats Instant Action Cat Litter Review earns 2.5 cats out of 5. The price can be quite good for this product, but its difficulty in dealing with urine still makes it a hard sale. While it seems to handle feces well and locks in the odor very quickly, we wish this ability would translate to all waste, at which time it would be a definite recommendation. If you find yourself having a bigger issue with feces than urine then this product still might be worth checking out.
