Arm & Hammer Essentials Double Duty Natural Cat Litter Review

Advertised Product Description

Last Updated by Brandon F. on May 6, 2020

This is our Arm & Hammer Essentials Double Duty Natural Cat Litter Review.  Arm & Hammer Essentials Double Duty Natural Clumping is intended on eliminating both feces as well as urine odors.  This is accomplished by usage of a proprietary blend of natural corn fibers as well as odor neutralizers and Arm & Hammer baking soda.  The corn fibers help to absorb the urine and assist in clumping.  These fibers are advertised as being able to absorb up to twice as much urine as conventional clay litter.  This litter is available in a 9-pound bag.

Who This Cat Litter is Intended For

This cat litter is directed towards people who have had a lot of difficulty in maintaining odor control through both feces and urine.  This is very common in multi-cat boxes or very busy litter boxes in general.  Also, this is intended for people who are trying to be more environmentally aware, since this litter is made of all-natural ingredients.  However, they are willing to achieve all of these requirements while paying a premium price for it, so is perfect if you’re a first time cat owner  and need litter for your cat, also you can get more help in different cat guides online.

What Makes this Cat Litter Unique

This is one of the few all-natural cat litters on the market that tackles odor elimination so aggressively.  Let’s face it: most natural cat litters don’t do as good of a job at both odor elimination as well as moisture retention as a lot of clay litters.  The fact that it tries to compete with the clay products (which have their unique issues) while still maintaining the all-natural label is very special.

Clumping Ability – 3.5 star

True to their word, this stuff clumps up very quickly when exposed to cat urine, and can handle a lot of it.  However, there can be issues of the clumps not staying very hard over time and falling apart while being removed.  Feces results in a similar outcome.  Not a terrible choice if you are timely with clump removal.

Scent – 3.5 star

The scent has a more “natural” smell to it and isn’t quite as harsh as many other offerings.  That being said, there is still a bit of a chemical underlying scent but most cats and owners don’t seem to mind it.  While clumped, the litter does a good job of masking the smell but if and when the clumps fall apart during removal a lot of that smell is injected back into the air, which can be a bit frustrating.

Messiness – 3 star

Since this litter isn’t clay-based it is a lot lighter in weight than many other litters.  This is good for transportation purposes but it also means that it can get kicked around a lot easier.  On top of this, if the clumps fall apart before being removed then this mixture can easily stick to cat paws and be tracked far away from the immediate vicinity of the cat box.  Removing the clumps before they can deteriorate will greatly help with this, however.

This product is available online in the premium price range.  At this level, we can be quite picky.  There are some concerns with this litter that do drop it down a few notches for us.  And when you take into account the high price tag, we are unable to give a high rank for value.

Overall Rating – 3 star

The Arm & Hammer Essentials Double Duty Natural Cat Litter Review earns 3 cats out of 5.  This litter does nothing wrong but at the same time doesn’t knock it out of the park on anything, either.  We feel this type of description should come with a more “average” price as well.  Unfortunately, the sticker shock associated with this doesn’t make it a great buy, despite being a decent performer overall.  For those of you looking for a more natural choice litter choice and willing to spend extra for it, however, we wouldn’t fault you for giving this a go.
