This is our Fresh Step Extreme Odor Control Scented Cat Litter Review.  Fresh Step Extreme Odor Control Scented cat litter is specifically formulated to tackle even the stinkiest litter boxes.  This is accomplished through the use of CarbonPLUS technology which helps eliminate extreme odor as well as antimicrobial agents that help to inhibit the growth of bacterial odors in the latter.  All of this is put into clumping clay that is guaranteed to get hard and stay hard.  This product is available in 12, 20, 25, 28, 34, and 38-pound boxes as well as a 42-pound bag.

Who This Cat Litter is Intended For

This product is targeted at difficult litter boxes where odor has always run rampant and the owners have had enough.  It is optimized for single-cat litter boxes and for those who are looking for a traditional clay clumping litter that also uses artificial fragrances to assist with blocking odors.  Finally, it is directed towards those who are willing to pay a high monetary price to find the right product.

What Makes This Cat Litter Unique

This product is unique because of its aggressiveness towards trying to block cat waste smells.  It has a unique combination of embedded carbon, antimicrobial agents, and conventional clumping that when combined makes it stand out from a majority of the clay litters on the market.  Overall we rarely see something with so many layers of odor control be directed at a single-cat litter box.

Clumping Ability –

While this cat litter does clump, the clumps are quite large so you can go through a box of this product very quickly, especially in a busier litter box.   Also for some reason when urine is introduced to the litter the granules start to feel like concrete.  It becomes very hard and pasty and sticks to the bottom of the box as well as to your cat itself!  At least the clumps stay in place because of how much they harden.

Scent – 

The scent used in this cat litter is a very powerful perfume smell that will likely be too much for a lot of people.  We understand Fresh Step’s desire to try to maximize covering up cat odors but we think they took it to the extreme here.  If the scent itself wasn’t enough this doesn’t do a very good job of locking in the odor.

After just a couple of days of use, many people have complained about being able to smell urine and feces which is a bit disappointing for a product that is supposed to be dedicated to fighting those powerful odors.

Messiness – 

As mentioned above, the concrete-like aftermath can be very difficult to clean.  It will stick and harden to anything including the box and cat paws.  This brings in additional issues with your cat tracking the litter outside of the box and potentially ingesting it while it tries to lick the gunk off its paws.  There is also a lot of dust with this product which will kick up with any movement of the litter.  All of this is only multiplied with the more use that your litter box sees.

Buy on Amazon $30.45 and save 8%

Available generally in the premium-price area online.  This is not a good thing considering that it is a clay litter.

The Fresh Step Extreme Odor Control Scented Cat Litter Review earns 1.5 out of 5 stars.  For how expensive this litter is you would expect something that clumps well, hides odors, and is low on maintenance.  Unfortunately, it misses the mark on most of these.  The odor-blocking ability just isn’t there, it is very messy, and while the clumps that form are quite hard, they are a headache to clean up.  We recommend shopping for other options.
