This is our Fresh Step Multi-Cat Scented Scoopable Cat Litter Review.  Fresh Step Multi-Cat Scented Scoopable cat litter is advertised as being extra-strength so that it can tackle even the most challenging multiple cat household.  It contains activated carbon and plant extracts to help eliminate odors.

Using high-quality clay, cat feces and urine are easily absorbed and any liquid trapped.  This is done while having a fresh scent that is paw-activated so every time your cats use the litter box the smell will be injected into the air again.  Available in 14, 20, 25, 34, and 38-pound boxes and a 42-pound bag.

Who This Cat Litter is Intended For

This cat litter is targeted at households with multiple cats and that have especially high-traffic litter boxes.  The people using this product like to go with a conventional clay clumping litter but are ok with having some extra twists such as the inclusion of activated carbon and plant extracts.

Also, they and their cats don’t mind the smell of artificial perfume that is found in many litters.  Finally, the owners are willing to pay a premium price to find a product that works for them and their cats.

What Makes This Cat Litter Unique

This cat litter is unique in that it combines both clay as well as natural elements such as plant extracts to tackle what can be a very tough challenge of keeping a multi-cat litter box under control in the smell department.  This product is also confident that it can do so while providing a refreshing litter scent that isn’t too overpowering or off-putting.  We also like the implementation of paw-activated elements to the litter.

Clumping Ability – 

Clumping is average to above average for this litter.  Feces seem to be taken care of quite well but urine in high amounts can sometimes turn into a pasty mess.  While this might not be a concern for a one or two cat household, a larger family could potentially deal with this issue due to the sheer amount of urine that the litter box would be exposed to.  It is important to remove clumped areas promptly to help ensure that this litter’s performance is up to par at all times.

Scent – 

The scent smells like chemicals and the industrial feel to it won’t be for everyone.  While we do appreciate their recent inclusion of Febreze scent into the mix, it simply isn’t going to agree with everybody’s palette.  Also, the smells seem to linger and can even stick to your cat or your clothes if you come in contact with it.

We were hoping for a more pleasant smell with this product.  In terms of odor-blocking for cat waste, it does a good job, even when dealing with multiple cats, so the combination of clay, plant extracts, and activated carbon is used works in that regard.

Messiness – 

This is a very dusty product.  Any time you pour it or clean it anticipate there being a huge smoke of dust that is kicked up.  The industrial perfume smell of this litter is also then kicked up as well and seems to stick to everything it touches.

For a busier litter box, this means you’ll have to deal with this dust quite often.  Cleanup of waste is, for the most part, straightforward except when too much urine comes in contact, and then you have to deal with the pasty mess that can be hard to clean up and can stick to cat paws and be tracked.

Overall Rating – 

The Fresh Step Multi-Cat Scented Scoopable Cat Litter Review earns 2.5 out of 5 cats.  Honestly for the price we were hoping for a bit more.  It is decent in most regards with most smells being kept in check and clumps do stay hard for a while but when you are paying this much for a litter you should expect more.  Specifically, we wish they would have gone with a more natural scent and that they would do a better job of keeping dust levels in check.
