Who This Cat Litter is Intended For

This cat litter is intended for owners who have struggled with keeping particular scents in check when using other litters.  This could be due to unique circumstances such as an especially demanding litter box, poor circulation, or just a cat who has notoriously smelly waste.

While it doesn’t appear this product is meant to multiple-cat households, the effective approach that it has makes it a potential solution for owners with two or more cats.  Finally, it is a bit over the budget price line so people who are willing to spend a bit extra for a cat product might be interested in this.

What Makes This Cat Litter Unique

This cat litter is unique in its pinpoint approach at dealing with the individual contributors to smells: urine, feces, and bacteria.  This is refreshing because most products on the market try to contain each of these using just one approach.  By optimizing each, it improves the performance and means that it can handle a much wider variety of waste types and intensities than most of its competition.  While doing this, this product also tries to retain conventional clumping benefits that exist in clay litters.

Clumping Ability – 

The clumping of this litter is not bad.  It is overall easy to scoop and the scoops stay relatively hard.  The cat litter granules can be a bit large in size, however, which means that you will go through a box of this quicker than you would expect.  We do wonder if they could have produced a recipe that resulted in smaller clumps while still have acceptable odor locking and cleanup since there are so many other agents helping to fight odor.

Scent – 

The scent can be a bit artificial and strong at times but seems to settle after a few hours.  More importantly, it does a good job of locking in cat odors for several days.  The unique combination of individual components attacking the three sources of smell plus the inclusion of activated carbon and plant extracts comes together to be an overall effective success.

However, if you leave the clumps in there long enough that they start falling apart, the smells are quickly released.  So be sure to keep an active watch over the litter box regularly.

Messiness – 

This product is, unfortunately, one of the dustiest cat litters we have ever come across.  The dust gets kicked up any time there is any movement of the litter, which can be quite often in a busier litter box.  And the worst part is that the dust sort of lingers in the air and will ultimately settle wherever it sees fit.  You will find dust on your carpet, your clothes, and even your cat!  And the clay smell is carried along with the dust.  Tracking of the litter itself isn’t too bad but the sheer amount of dust your cat will track throws up some big red flags.

Online this litter will generally run you in the mid-priced tier.  This is about average for clay.  There are cheaper options out there with similar performance, however.

The Fresh Step Triple Action Scented Cat Litter Review earns 2.5 out of 5 cats.  The dust levels of this litter are really what do it in.  The clumps are hard enough and timely enough to get a pass and the cat smells are subdued for several days which is a positive, but cleanup and general maintenance can be an absolute nightmare.  Because of this, we can only give it an average rating.  We hope that that Fresh Step finds a way to keep their dust levels and check and make the clumps a little smaller and harder and they would have a home run product here.
