This is our Healthy Pet ökocat Natural Wood Clumping for Long Hair Breeds Cat Litter Review. Healthy Pet ökocat Natural Wood Clumping for Long Hair Breeds cat litter is specially designed for those cats with especially long hair that has had problems with litter getting stuck in their fur.
To combat this, Healthy Pet has created extra dense pellets that won’t be easily carried throughout the house. Also, these have guaranteed 7-day odor control, 500% absorption, and superior clumping ability. This product does not use any sort of harsh chemical or fragrance and is biodegradable and flushable. Available in 8.4, 13.5, and 20.2-pound boxes.
Who This Cat Litter is Intended For
As expected, this cat litter is intended for long-haired cat breeds who have had difficulties with other litters, especially crystal cat litter and jagged clay litters. That being said, the target audience still expects to have a nice clumping litter. Also, they value more eco-friendly products since this is made of wood pellets and it is also good for owners and cats that may have sensitivities to strong artificial perfumes. Most of the time this litter is best for single-cat households or litter boxes that have relatively low traffic. Finally, users of this cat litter need to anticipate paying a premium for it.
What Makes This Cat Litter Unique
This product is unique in that it is specially made for long-haired cats by formulating extra-large pellets that are difficult to latch on to cat hair. Not only that, but it is comprised of wood pellets, which is somewhat uncommon in the litter world. Even more uncommon is a wood-based litter that still exclaims having good clumping and adequate odor control(up to a week).
Clumping Ability –
Clumping ability it good for urine, but can struggle a bit with feces. When urine hits the pellets, they sort of expand while breaking down and make semi-hard clumps that are easily noticeable. Feces, on the other hand, doesn’t clump well with the granules and you end up just having sort of a gooey mess.
This is why we recommend using this product for only single-cat households as things can get out of hand rather quickly if multiple cats are using one litter box. Also, there can be issues with the clumps being able to be filtered through normal scoops due to the large size so you might end up wasting a lot of product.
Scent –
The litter itself doesn’t have an intense scent to it. Rather, it smells sort of like wood packing. Similar to its clumping, it does a good job of managing smells associated with urine but struggles with feces. This most likely has to do with the fact that it isn’t encompassing the feces. We question the 7-day odor guarantee in most applications.
Messiness –
This litter does a much better job of not being tracked due to its larger size. Being wood, there is also essentially no dust. However, it comes at the cost of having a somewhat messy cleanup when trying to remove feces. Both the fact that the clumps are not overly hard coupled with the issue that they don’t filter easily means that you might have to deal with a pasty stinky mess when trying to do maintenance on the litter box. It is important to remove clumps as soon as possible because the longer you wait the worse things seem to become.

Expect to pay into the premium-price area for this product. This is pretty typical of the rest of Healthy Pet’s cat litter products.
Overall Rating –
The Healthy Pet ökocat Natural Wood Clumping for Long Hair Breeds Cat Litter Review earns 2.5 out of 5 cats. The struggles this litter has with any hard waste bumps it down in our ratings. We also have found that the odor guard is a lot lower than advertised in most applications. For the premium price that this product costs we just don’t see the value. We understand how frustrating it can be to find a good litter for long-haired cats but, unfortunately, we would recommend continuing to shop around and skip over this one.
