Advertised Product Description

This is our Healthy Pet ökocat Pine Cat Litter Review.  Healthy Pet ökocat Pine cat litter is made of soft cracked pine pellets that are advertised as being paw-friendly.  This chemical, dye, and synthetic-free litter has been tested to absorb more than 5x its weight in liquid as well as be able to control odor for up to 7 days.  Also, this litter is biodegradable and flushable.  This product is available in 7.8, 12.4, and 18.6-pound boxes.

Who This Cat Litter is Intended For

This cat litter is intended for cats and owners who are fed up with conventional clay cat litters or are just curious to try a new material that is more eco-friendly and might be less harsh in scent.  Specifically, this pine-based product is optimized to agree with people and cats who might be sensitive to harsh artificial chemicals and perfumes common in other types of litter while still having the desired odor-fighting capability.

Also, this litter is for people who either don’t have the time or desire to remove clumps and would rather dump out the entire box when it is exhausted.  These owners will typically have a single cat or a low-traffic litter box.  Finally, this is a great cat litter for those on a tight budget as it is quite affordable.

What Makes This Cat Litter Unique

This cat litter is unique because it is made entirely of pine pellets, which is a very uncommon material.  Despite this unique approach, they are confident this material will still be able to hold up to odor demands.  Furthermore, the pine is supposedly supposed to absorb 5x its weight in liquid, which is quite impressive and much higher than most normal litter materials can exclaim.

Clumping Ability – N/A

This litter does not clump.  Rather, when it is exposed to liquid it breaks down into a sawdust-like material that can then be scooped out and thrown away as desired.

Scent – 4 star

The smell is a natural pine smell which most consider quite pleasant.  It isn’t overpowering and since there are no chemicals used, there is no burning artificial smell that is common clay perfume clay litters.  In terms of odor control, it does a decent job if the litter is kept under control.

Since there is no clumping associated with this product then the feces isn’t captured or “locked away” in a litter shell.  The wood will absorb some of the scents but since it is still essentially exposed feces there can start to be some lingering smells if it is left for too long or there is too much of it.  This is why we recommend keeping this product to single-cat litter boxes.  However, it does a good job of removing urine smell, even for the promised 7 days.

Messiness – 3 star

Depending on how you approach maintenance on this litter will affect how messy it is to some extent.  Those that try to remove feces regularly will have to deal with the wood “dust” more so than those that simply wait until the entire box is spent and dispose of it all in one sweep.  Since the sawdust-like medium is the result of being exposed to moisture, there can be some tracking as the dust is quite light and can stick to cat fur and paws.  Thankfully that’s the only dust you’ll have to deal with as this is essentially dust-free, unlike most cat litters.

Value – 4 star
