This is our LitterMaid Premium Natural Clumping Cat Litter Review.  LitterMaid Premium Natural Clumping cat litter uses earth-friendly, corn-based grains so as to avoid relying on the harsh chemicals that some of the competition uses.  This blend also has great clumping ability and the micro-pore granules excel at trapping odor-causing agents and eliminating them for extending periods of time.  In addition, it is 99% dust-free.  This product is available in a 7-pound bag.

Who This Cat Litter is Intended For

This cat litter is primarily intended to be used with LitterMaid’s other products, but it can also stand on its own.  More generally, it is made for people who want to go a more natural route than solid clay by introducing corn into the equation.  However, it is for people who still want to enjoy conventional clumping abilities and adequate odor control.  In addition, it is typically best for single-cat litter boxes.  Finally, it comes at a premium price so it is for people who are willing to spend a bit extra to find a product that they and their cat enjoy.

What Makes This Cat Litter Unique

This cat litter is unique because it mixes clay and corn together, something that is rarely seen in other litters.  This creates a pretty unique concoction that enjoys some of the benefits of both and supposedly doesn’t take away the individual pros of each.  Other bold statements such as being 99% dust free and offering multiple days of cat odor protection truly make this product stand out from a lot of the competition.

Clumping Ability –

Overall this product clumps just alright.  The clumps do form, but can sometimes be quite large, which wastes a lot of product.  In addition, the clumps can be on the softer side and can fall apart while being run through a litter machine or being picked up manually.

This is likely the price we must pay when mixing clay with a less clump-friendly material in corn.  The litter does do a good job of capturing all of the moisture, however.  Just be careful with handling the clumps because if they fall apart it can make things messy to clean up.

Scent – 

The corn-based litter has only a marginal scent to it.  This is a nice change from a lot of the stinky clay-based litters on the market, and we are sure your cat won’t mind as well.  In regards to how well it captures cat odors, it does fine for a couple of days but things can go downhill quickly after that, especially if you have a busy litter box.

This probably has a correlation to the clumps falling apart so if you can stay on top of maintenance and remove the clumps in a speedy manner then it might not be an issue, although it would be nice to not have to babysit the litter box that closely.

Messiness – 

True to their word, this litter has essentially no dust.  This, coupled with the unique litter consistency, means there is virtually no tracking outside of the litter box.  In regards to clean up, it really depends on if you can get to the clumps before they deteriorate.  If you are able to do that then cleanup is a breeze and you won’t be doing a lot of messy scraping.  However, if you wait too long the entire process can become quite laborious, especially without a litter machine.

Value – 

This litter typically runs in the premium-priced tier.  This actually doesn’t surprise us since this product is designed to work with the LitterMaid system which is quite expensive as well.

Overall Rating – 

The LitterMaid Premium Natural Clumping Cat Litter Review earns 2.5 out of 5 cats.  Average clumping.  Average odor control.  Pretty good cleanup capabilities.  A lot of litters have this description but not all of them are so expensive.  While we should acknowledge that mixing the clay with corn is a unique approach and we definitely see some benefits from it, we still struggle to justify it given the high price.  We won’t talk you out of trying this litter if you are interested in trying a corn/clay hybrid but we aren’t going to try to sell you on it, either.
