This is our Precious Cat Senior Cat Litter Review.  Precious Cat Senior cat litter is designed for senior cats who might be more sensitive to harsh chemicals and elements.  This product absorbs urine and feces odor on contact and captures it inside crystals.  This helps to keep it away from a cat’s genital areas and reduces the risk of contracting a urinary tract infection, which can be common among older cats.  The small particle size also coats and dehydrates feces to reduce odor.  It is advertised as being hypo-allergenic, organic material-free, non-toxic, and biodegradable.  It is available in 8-pound bags.

Who This Cat Litter is Intended For

The target audience for this litter is senior cats, although it is also good for pregnant, overweight, and arthritic cats in general.  While there isn’t a set age we consider “senior”, we would say once your cat starts showing some of the common side effects of age that you might consider one of these products that are designed for them.

Specifically, if your cat is sensitive around its genital area or is having trouble with conventional harsh clay litters then this product is targeted at your pet.  Also, if your cat enjoys silica gel/crystal cat litters and you enjoy the odor-controlling qualities of it and are willing to give up clumping abilities then this could be worth checking out.  Finally, this product is quite expensive so it is intended for those willing to spend a bit extra to find a litter that works.

What Makes This Cat Litter Unique

This cat litter is unique in that it is designed for senior cats and/or cats that have sensitive genital areas.  This is a very specific niche that most other products don’t target.  We think the approach of using silica gel is also quite original and is a good way to help avoid some of the common issues present in clay and wood-based litters.

Clumping Ability – N/A

This litter isn’t intended to clump.  That being said, urine will still absorb into it.  The consistency of the litter is very fine and almost sand-like so any material that coats feces will simply glaze it.  You are expected and encouraged to simply remove any feces daily.

Scent – 

The litter itself has a very subtle scent that should not be a turnoff to most cats or owners.  Since there are no harsh or even organic chemicals added then there isn’t a lot of components to produce smells.  This isn’t intended to take care of cat odors for extended periods but will do the trick for a day or two due to the nature of silica gel.

Since you are encouraged to remove feces daily, any that is left in your cat litter box for very long will begin to smell.  Also, it can struggle with fighting off urine odors in very busy litter boxes or boxes that have not had their litter swapped out in some time.   If you monitor and remove the waste daily then it keeps the smell in check.

Messiness – 

Since there is no clumping then removing solids can be a bit messy, and stirring it up can release smells.  Also, since this litter is a more sand-like consistency it can get everywhere and be tracked easily.  There is also quite a bit of dust (which, according to Precious Cat, is part of the design) so this can get kicked up and tracked as well.  Finally, the urine can overwhelm the litter rather quickly, turning it into sticky, stinky sand that can be annoying to deal with.

Value – 

Online prices typically range in the premium-price area.  This is somewhat of a norm for specialty cat litters but it still a bit of a turnoff for us due to the high price tag.

Overall Rating – 

The Precious Cat Senior Cat Litter Review earns 2 out of 5 cats.  Nothing stands out with this litter except for the high price.  It is intended for older cats and has some benefits for that target market that lies outside of odor control or dust levels.  For that purpose, it still is attractive for some but they need to realize the shortcomings that exist with this product beforehand and plan accordingly.
