Premium Choice Multi-cat Cat Litter Review

Advertised Product Description

This is our Premium Choice Multi-cat Cat Litter Review.  Premium Choice Multi-cat cat litter is a clumping litter that is intended for households with multiple cats and need a powerful odor control answer.  To help resolve this, it has a fresh fragrance injected into the litter to go along with the odor neutralization capabilities of baking soda.  It is also advertised as being highly absorbent and doing all of this with minimal tracking and dust.  It is available in a 16-pound jug and a 25-pound bag.

Who This Cat Litter is Intended For

As expected, this cat litter is intended for multi-cat households who will typically have higher traffic litter boxes than average.  Beyond this, it is a good target for those owners who prefer clay litters and the associated clumping ability that often goes along with them.  Cats and owners that don’t mind artificial fragrances are also going to be better off with this product than those who might have sensitive allergies or a sense of smell.  Finally, this product is targeted towards those who are on a tight budget or are trying to cut back on their cat litter costs without skipping on quality.

What Makes This Cat Litter Unique

This cat litter is unique in that it is directly targeted towards multi-cat litter boxes.  This can traditionally be a very challenging scenario since odor exposure is a lot higher.  We also like how Premium Choice decided to keep things relatively simple by sticking with clay but mixing it up a bit with the inclusion of baking soda.

Clumping Ability – 3 star

The clumping ability is about average to maybe slightly above average.  The clumps form in a reasonable amount of time and stay moderately hard.  However, any demanding roles for them such as letting them sit for a week or having them in a high-traffic area (which this product is meant for) will likely result in them starting to fall apart and form a mess.

It also does an average job of absorbing moisture from urine.  There are litters on the market with much higher absorption capabilities but they oftentimes use slightly different materials to achieve it.  If you are timely about removing clumps this shouldn’t be a major issue but if you put it off things could get a bit ugly.

Scent – 1.5 star

The litter scent is somewhat strong and artificial and whether or not your cat is turned off by it will be on a case by case basis.  The important issue is that it could do a much better job of masking the cat waste odors.  Despite the inclusion of baking soda, cat feces and urine smells still can be smelled after relatively short periods.  We found that the   This is especially true if the clumps had already started to deteriorate and release their odors back into the air.  Having multiple cats only amplifies the problem and it can become a real headache.

Messiness – 2 star

How messy this litter is can depend on whether you get to the waste before or after the clumps fall apart (AKA generally a couple of days).  If you can get to it early enough then it isn’t overly messy but if you wait too long it can turn into a messy nightmare.  There is quite a bit of dust associated with this item as well, and tracking of both the dust as well as pieces of the litter itself are common.

Value – 4 star

Online prices for this tend to fall in the budget-price range.  This means that it should be within the budget of just about everybody which is a very nice perk to have.

Overall Rating – 2.5 star

The Premium Choice Multi-cat Cat Litter Review earns 2.5 out of 5 cats.  Even with the great price, there are a lot of issues with this product.  The clumps are serviceable but it really struggles to obscure cat odors after a short period, and can also be quite messy if not watched closely.  If you are trying to be frugal it should work well enough but otherwise shop around for something better.
