Scoop Away Multi-Cat Scented Cat Litter Review

Advertised Product Description

This is our Scoop Away Multi-cat Scented Cat Litter Review.  Scoop Away Multi-Cat Scented cat litter is advertised as being specially formulated to handle odors in even the busiest litter boxes.  The clump strength is bumped up to ensure hard clumps and easy cleanup.  This product is also fortified with Ammonia Shield which helps to destroy odors quickly and also inhibit any growth of bacterial odors.  This litter is available in 14, 25, and 38-pound boxes.

Who This Cat Litter is Intended For

This cat litter is oriented towards the upper spectrum of busy litter boxes which generally include multi-cat examples.  It is for owners and pets who prefer or at least don’t mind a clay material and also value a clumping ability.  Also, they don’t mind the smell of an artificial perfume to assist in odor control.  Finally, they are somewhat flexible on their budget but still don’t want to spend a ton of money if possible.

What Makes This Cat Litter Unique

This cat litter is unique in that it attempts to tackle one of the toughest categories of cat litter (multi-cat) while sticking to a pretty straightforward approach of clumping clay.  Many competitors on the market try other more specialized materials that oftentimes give up the clumping ability or other normal and desired features in hopes of being able to control the odor.  The fact that Scoop Away keeps it simply shows their confidence in this product.

Clumping Ability – 3.5 star

This product overall does a good job of clumping.  The clumps harden relatively quickly and more importantly stay hard for days.  Also, the clumps are relatively small so they do the job without using any more litter than necessary.  It seems to handle both feces as well as urine quite well, although initial contact with moisture will result in a somewhat sticky surface for a few minutes.

This can be a minor inconvenience if you have an extremely busy litter box as the granules may have a hard time setting because of being constantly moved around by a different cat.  But as long as you keep an eye on your cat’s litter and maintain it promptly, this issue is mostly avoided.

Scent – 2.5 star

This cat litter has a very strong perfume smell to it.  Unfortunately, for many, the perfume smell it has won’t be considered enjoyable because it has a definite artificial and chemical aroma.  This might make some cats and even some owners shy away, and cats that have allergies, breathing issues, or are very sensitive to smell might struggle using it.

Overall the Ammonia Shield does a good job of capturing the cat odors, however.  And the fact that the clumps stay hard and lock in smells means that this could be used for several days to stop odors, even in multi-cat boxes.

Messiness – 1.5 star

This is one of the dustiest litters we have ever come across.  The dust is kicked up when any movement happens and when it does the strong artificial perfume smell comes up with it.  Also, this dust sticks to everything, including your cat, and can easily get tracked out of the box.  Thankfully there isn’t much tracking beyond this and the clumps are easy to dispose of.  Also, as long as you don’t let the moisture go overboard there is no major concern of any litter sticking to the sides of the box and requiring scraping to remove.

Value – 2.5 star

Prices for this litter online generally are seen to hang around the mid-priced tier.  For a clay litter, this is a bit too high for our liking.  While it won’t be at the level of more expensive crystal cat litters, it may still be a financial burden for those on a very tight budget.

Overall Rating – 2.5 star

The Scoop Away Multi-cat Scented Cat Litter Review earns 2.5 out of 5 cats.  The only thing that shines out for this product is the clumping ability.  It does have some issues with odor control and especially with the dust.  The price isn’t too extreme but it would be nice if they came down a bit on it since there are other better options out there that are more affordable.
