Advertised Product Description
This is our So Phresh Dual Odor Guard Cat Litter Review. So Phresh Dual Odor Guard scoopable cat litter is advertised as being a leader in controlling strong odors caused by both urine and feces. This is accomplished through a special formula of natural mineral crystals, which excel at absorbing moisture quickly and efficiently. Also, they clump tight and fast, making cleanup a breeze. This product is available in 16 and 20-pound tubs.
Who This Cat Litter is Intended For
This cat litter is intended for households that have had issues keeping one or both of the primary sources of cat odor in check: cat waste solids and/or urine. This includes both single and multi-cat households and is also targeted at areas that have poor ventilation or close quarters.
Also, this product is good for those who are not fans of clay litters or simply want to try something different but want to retain the clumping abilities that so many people have come to be familiar with from clay. Finally, they are willing to open their wallet a bit more to buy a product that works.
What Makes This Cat Litter Unique
This cat litter is unique in that it is made of mineral crystals, which is quite a rarity for cat litters. Furthermore, the fact that they target both feces and urine with specialized approaches is a refreshing concept and one that many other competitors’ products can struggle with.
Clumping Ability –
Overall this litter does an average job at clumping. It seems in our analysis the overall crystals just don’t do as good of a job at clumping as conventional clay and this is again evident here. The clumps get relatively hard and should stay that way for a few days but are somewhat sensitive and may fall apart if you leave them alone for too long or you or your cat tries to move them abruptly. The crystal concoction does a pretty good job of moisture absorption, however, so the litter box should be able to handle quite a bit of urine before things go downhill.
Scent –
There isn’t much of a smell that the litter itself puts out, which is generally a good thing as the strong artificial perfume smells can be a turnoff to many cats. The crystals do a decent job of capturing in feces smells but this can deteriorate if the clumps are allowed to fall apart. Because of this, extra attention needs to be given in busier litter boxes. However, urine and the ensuing ammonia smells are contained quite well and should not be an issue for a long time.
Messiness –
This product isn’t quite as dusty as most completely clay litters but is more so than a lot of the crystal or mineral-based or hybrid offerings on the market. It also tracks very easily so expect to be picking up these from around the litter box to other rooms as not only does it get kicked around but it can also stick to your cat. The clumps are mostly trouble-free if you can get to them promptly but wait too long and they will fall apart and become quite a hassle. As mentioned above, the clumps falling apart are mostly tied to feces.
Value –
This product is available online typically in the mid to premium-price areas. We try to aim for clay litters to fall into the budget or mid-price tier so this asking price is higher than we would have liked.
Overall Rating –
The So Phresh Dual Odor Guard Cat Litter Review earns 2.5 out of 5 cats. For being a dual odor guard, we were a bit disappointed in the struggles that it when clumps fall apart from feces, which they can sometimes do with this litter. If this wasn’t an issue we would have rated it much higher. However, it does take care of urine odors quite well. There are also some tracking issues but this is quite common with the litters that have crystals mixed in with them.
