Advertised Product Description
This is our UltraPet Better Way Original Cat Litter Review. UltraPet Better Way Original cat litter is the original clumping litter offered by UltraPet. It is made of Bentonite which is advertised as providing superior clumping. Also, it is relatively easy to maintain and soft on paws. The pheromone-free recipe is a natural cat attractant and excellent for being a training litter for kittens. This product is available in 14-pound bags.
Who This Cat Litter is Intended For
This cat litter is designed for single and multi-cat households who are looking to keep things simple and go with a straightforward clumping clay litter. However, due to allergies or other reasons, they or their cat have issues with the perfumes that are normally put into a litter and want to go the unscented route. It is also good for kittens or cats with sensitive paws since the material is much softer than most clay granules on the market. Furthermore, they are on a tight budget and would like to keep prices down while still finding a litter that works.
What Makes This Cat Litter Unique
This cat litter is unique in its simplicity. Very few products anymore keep things simple and often will introduce a ton of other ingredients and chemicals into their product. Sometimes it can help but other times this introduces new issues that might hurt the performance and overwhelm the user. UltraPet feels that they have a straightforward approach here that gets the job done without having to use a ton of gimmicks.
Clumping Ability –
This is a much softer litter than many conventional clay options on the market, and it clumps quite well. Also, the clumps are more lightweight which means that they are easier to remove and also more easily disturbed. It doesn’t have quite the absorbency that we hoped for when presented with urine, but the feces clumps seem to lock in the moisture. That being said, the clumps are on the weaker side so be careful during removal or risk them falling apart.
Scent –
This is an unscented litter, but there is still a faint clay-like smell associated with it. Unfortunately, it doesn’t do a great job of locking in the smells. The clumps, while easily formed, seem to struggle with keeping the cat scents tucked away for more than a couple days. This means you will need to keep an extra eye on the box, especially if you have multiple cats using it. The urine can seem to pool up a little bit and catalyze the smell of ammonia after a few days as well.
Messiness –
This is a quite dusty product. Perhaps going with a less-common clay medium could be to blame. Also, the dust tracks quite easily and can often stick to your cat or to just about anything else for that matter. The clumps can be a bit weak so there is a higher risk of them falling apart which results in a gooey mess.
The one good point is that urine, while prone to pool up, seems to stay near the surface so we didn’t see the need to have to scrape the walls of the box due to too much liquid seeping through. We recommend maintenance on the litter box at least twice per week.
Value –
Online prices for this product vary but generally fall in the budget-price range. This is a very reasonable price for a bentonite-based cat litter.
Overall Rating –
The UltraPet Better Way Original Cat Litter Review earns 2.5 out of 5 cats. An average to slightly below average product, there aren’t any specifics that are worth getting excited about. We like the simple approach but there is just something missing from making this a definite buy. Thankfully the price is low enough to justify these results but even at this price, there are several better options out there.
