This is our UltraPet Litter Pearls Micro Crystals Cat Litter Review. Ultra Pet Litter Pearls Micro Crystals cat litter is a silica gel-based litter that is comprised of tiny crystals. These crystals excel at odor control and are also comfortable on the bottom of your cat’s paws. They do so by essentially absorbing all moisture from urine and feces quickly and efficiently and do so while still being 99% dust-free. This product is available in 3.5 and 7-pound bags.
Who This Cat Litter is Intended For
This product is designed for owners and cats who are tired of clay, wood, and corn-based litters and want to try something different. This might be due to having allergies associated with the fumes used in the other products, issues with the dust levels, or that they simply want a change of pace.
Also, clumping capabilities are not a desire and the owner would rather simply dispose of the litter when it needs a refresh. This product is also good for cats with sensitive paws. Finally, this is a pretty expensive product so it is intended for those who are willing to pay extra for a product that works for them.
What Makes This Cat Litter Unique
This cat litter is unique because it is comprised of silica gel beads that are especially small. This is a very specialized approach, even in the world of silica and crystal litters, as these are extremely small. Despite the size change, UltraPet stands behind this product and believes that it provides excellent moisture absorption and odor control.
Clumping Ability – N/A
This product is not intended to clump. Rather, it simply extracts all moisture from cat waste, resulting in easy to identify and remove feces and little in the way of moisture from urine. Some people will use an automatic litter box or manually remove the feces while others will let the litter run its course and then remove the entire contents and put new contents in.
Scent –
There is little scent associated with silica gel, so this litter is scentless. While some may prefer the powerful fragrances of other litters, you run the risk of the smells agitating your cat if it has allergies or a sensitive sense of smell. As such, we don’t mind when there is no smell since it is playing it safe.
However, more importantly, it does a great job of locking in the cat waste odors for several days at a time. The urine is caught near the surface so there is little concern of it pooling up towards the bottom of the box. Despite the feces not being surrounded by litter and clumped, the fact the moisture is removed means that there is little smell that can sneak out, even when it is fully exposed to air at the surface.
Messiness –
These crystals are very fine, and as such, there is a bit of dust that is kicked up when your cat uses the box or you are moving the litter around. That being said, it is nowhere near as bad as many clay litters on the market. The other inconvenience with crystal litters is the fact that the silica is generally quite light and can be kicked out and tracked easily.
This product is no exception, so expect to find some stray crystals laying around near the box or sticking to your cat’s fur is it is a longer-haired variety. Cleanup is quite simple and the feces is so dried out that there is little concern of it falling apart of becoming a mushy mess. You can try to remove the urine spots if your cat likes to go in one place but the easiest thing to do is simply wait until the litter is exhausted and replace the entire batch.
Value –
Prices for this price online typically are in the premium-priced area. This is much higher than we like to see for this type of cat litter.
Overall Rating –
The UltraPet Litter Pearls Micro Crystals Cat Litter Review earns 3 out of 5 cats. These microcrystals will feel great on cat paws (albeit track easily) and will stop odor with great ease but, like other similar crystal litters, it comes with a hefty price tag. If you are willing to pay for the high cost of admission, you will enjoy its overall performance.
