Advertised Product Description
This is our UltraPet Ultra Pearls Cat Litter Review. Ultrapet Ultra Pearls cat litter is advertised as being a maximum odor control option. This product is made of a silica gel in semi-round beads, which absorbs urine instantly and contributes 70% less to landfills when compared to conventional clay litters. Also, it is 99% dust free and great for cats with sensitive paws. It is available in 5-pound bags.
Who This Cat Litter is Intended For
This product is intended for those owners who have struggled in dealing with the cat smells their single cat puts out, oftentimes because of being in a small room or because of poor ventilation. Also, they are open to trying different types of materials outside of clay and the many eco-friendly products on the market. They aren’t interested in dealing with clumps. Also, this product is great for cats who might have sensitive paws. Finally, at the high asking price, this litter is meant primarily for people that are very flexible on the pet budget.
What Makes This Cat Litter Unique
This cat litter is unique because it builds its entire approach to the ability of silica gel. It is oriented to be used on more aggressive single cat litter boxes so this shows the UltraPet is very confident in the ability of their pearls in knocking out and keeping odor in control for long periods (up to a month, in fact!).
Clumping Ability – N/A
This product isn’t intended to clump as conventional clay litter would. Rather you are encouraged to remove waste as necessary either manually or by the use of an automatic litter box. Since removing urine can be a bit more challenging, it is normal to use a bag of this until the odor becomes too strong and lingers at which time it is best to empty the entire contents and replace it with new litter.
That being said, it does a very good job of absorbing the moisture from urine, and because of the unique color of the crystals, it is easy to identify where the urine is located. The feces simply sits in place towards the top of the box.
Scent –
The crystals do an excellent job of locking in both urine and feces odor for several days. Also, the product itself puts out only marginal scent and most cats should be fine being around it. The fact that they are so absorbent likely has a large role in why the scent does not get released easily. That being said, it is still important to remove the cat waste solids promptly since there is no clumping happening. Urine is more subjective and simply when you start to smell the ammonia it is probably time to remove it.
Messiness –
This litter tracks somewhat poorly due to the unique size and shape of the crystals, but most fall immediately outside the litter box. This is a small price to pay as the beads are very comfortable on cat paws. However, dust is at a minimum. Since the crystals are a bit on the larger side some of them will be scooped out if you are using an automatic litter box so keep that in mind.
Since nearly all the moisture is absorbed by the crystals there is little concern of it sticking to the sides of the box, resulting in you having to scrape it off. It also dries out the feces somewhat which makes it easier to remove manually.
Value –
Typical online prices for this product will be in the premium-priced category. These special pearl granules are extremely expensive and may be out of reach for many who are wanting to stick to a tight budget.
Overall Rating –
The UltraPet Ultra Pearls Cat Litter Review earns 3 out of 5 cats. Crystal-based litters are a unique and pricey approach, and this is no different. Some of the best odor control in the market is here but it is a very expensive product. Whether this is worth it to someone is on a case by case basis.
